CHIA Kitchen for ANOVA
Ukrainian object design is a young industry under development. The local press started to talk about Ukrainian products about a year or two ago. Of course, before this, local designers had already been creating furniture and decor, but these were mostly individual orders or limited series which were not represented in Ukrainian showroom and stores.
CHIA kitchen was designed by Dan Vakhrameyev for ANOVA. It is a successful example of collaboration between a Ukrainian producer and a Ukrainian design studio. For the design environment in Ukraine it is a complete novelty when a manufacturer takes the initiative to engage a designer into the creative process.
+kouple design studio is based in Kyiv and was founded by Dan Vakhrameyev and Kateryna Fedorenko. For the last years, +kouple™ has earned recognition designing and producing minimalist objects, décor and lighting, It is selling not only in Ukraine but also in European countries, America, Asia and even Australia. Therefore, the kitchen created is a recognizable style of the brand: simplicity of design, monochrome, minimalist lines and shapes.
CHIA kitchen reflects the balance between technology and natural materials: wooden foundations are made of solid wood and plywood, for façade panels colored MDF was chosen, which is quite popular in Europe but is rarely used in Ukraine. For the wood treatment there is a natural oils option and for those who prefer a more sustainable surface – a varnish option. For the kitchen tabletop the designer used high-tech laminates.
Kitchen CHIA was created for the local, Ukrainian market, so the goal was to achieve affordability, practicality, functionality and aesthetics.
The HAWA sliding system opens a door to an additional cooking surface. So, at small extra kitchen you can find an functional shelving system, a cutting board niche, drawers, lighting and sockets.
CHIA has an option of the island with an integrated multifunctional panel for seasoning storage, oil bottles, knives, cutting boards, napkins and cups. The panel sections is movable and can be transformed like a puzzle for more convenience.
GESSATO: ”More than just a stylish addition to a modern home, CHIA marks an important step in the evolution of the Ukrainian product design industry. If, until a couple of years ago, designers created products in a limited number and were not featured in the local media, now the world of furniture and interior design begins to flourish in Ukraine and finally receives the recognition it deserves. CHIA is a perfect illustration of this change.
Produced on a larger scale for the local market, the kitchen combines functionality and affordability with minimalism and clean lines. The solid wood and plywood are completed with MDF panels and come in two options, natural oiled or varnished. The tabletop is made of durable high-tech laminate, while an optional island comes with a practical multifunctional panel for bottles, spices and tools that can be arranged to suit the owner’s needs. Compact and efficient, the kitchen also features a sliding system that incorporates a cooking surface and extra shelves. CHIA’s elegant and modern appearance is meant to complement any interior and to integrate into any décor, but it also represents an exciting chapter in the world of Ukrainian product design. “
